The Techno-Industrial Park of Castro del Rio is located in Irapuato, Guanajuato. According to Mexico’s publication, CNN Expansión, it has become a ‘mecca’ of auto manufacturing in Mexico due to large carmakers such as Nissan, Mazda and Volkswagen announcing expansion plans in the region. This area has become a hub for auto suppliers thanks to the investments made by those carmakers as well as Honda and others.

North American Production Sharing (NAPS) opened an administrative office in early July at Castro del Rio in order to closely assist companies interested in manufacturing along Guanajuato’s Industrial Corrider. The industrial corridor runs from San Luis Potosi south to Queretaro and also includes: Aguascalientes, Silao, Leon, Irapuato, Salamanca and Celaya. In recognizing that Japan is investing heavily in the Bajio region, NAPS has assembled a first-rate team that includes a Japanese employee with extensive experience in the maquiladora industry.

Mexico’s automotive industry is a bright spot for the economy. Automotive companies exported more than 2 million cars (about 86% of total production) in 2011, which represents close to a quarter of all exports for the country.
