Several factors have aligned to make manufacturing in Mexico a more strategic choice for the U.S. market. For 20 years, manufacturers left the U.S. for China to cut costs. The United Kingdom U.K. is the first country that has liberalized export controls for Mexico, following Mexico’s accession to the Wassenaar Arrangement on January 25, 2012. By joining Wassenaar, Mexico is now one of 41 countries that cooperate and adhere to export controls for conventional arms and dual-use goods and technologies. Until now, American and European firms in the high-tech sector were constrained by Wassenaar guidelines with respect to manufacturing [...]

With worldwide presence at the 2012 Farnborough International Air Show, exhibitors attracted further interest in aerospace and defense manufacturing in Mexico. The six Mexican States with the largest Industry presence were: Baja California, Chihuahua, Jalisco, Nuevo Leon, Queretaro and Sonora. The presence of ProMexico and other Economic Development agencies enabled companies to further understand Mexico's strengths and weaknesses. The NAPS client companies that experienced growth have headquarters in the U.S. and Japan. Among them are companies that manufacture or re-manufacture components for electronics, automotive, aerospace, metal-mechanics, medical device and the consumable goods industries. These companies more than doubled the square footage of industrial warehouse space leased in Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez, adding close to 400,000 square feet of space to their manufacturing operations over the past 18 months. The NAFTA Commission Meeting held on April 3rd in Washington DC issued a joint statement that outlines continued cooperation of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico to increase economic competitiveness and trade among the 3 nations. Since NAFTA was signed in 1994 trade has more than tripled from $288 billion to $1 trillion. (NAPS) was honored at a ceremony for those members of AIM, the National Association for the Maquiladora Industry, who qualify as an “INFONAVIT Empresa de 10”. These are companies that have met 100% of their contribution obligations in the past 10 bimonthly periods.
