The automobile industry in Mexico is fueling the growth of Guanajuato with the opening of four new plants in Mexico in 2014 from Honda, Mazda, Volkswagen and, just to the north in Aguascalientes, Nissan. Following these automobile OEMs to the region are their tier 1, 2 and 3 suppliers from around the world. By some accounts, Guanajuato has received over 300 new supplier companies in the automobile industry from 2012 – 2017. While this growth is welcomed by the state and is expected to create thousands of new jobs, it will not come without its challenges.
Manufacturing model in Guanajuato
Possibly the largest challenge foreign companies will face when manufacturing in Guanajuato will be finding qualified personnel at all operational levels. Given NAPS’ presence in the region and our 22-year history specializing in administration and compliance management throughout Mexico, we are well prepared to recruit and help retain manufacturing personnel in Guanajuato. And because NAPS’ operating model provides virtually 100% of the administration and compliance management functionality on an on-going basis, there is no need for our clients to hire and depend on internal administrative personnel for Accounting, HR, Import/Export, Environmental Health & Safety and Immigration.
Another challenge will be finding industrial real estate in Guanajuato, especially for suppliers who prefer to lease space rather than buy land and build. Large, institutional real estate developers are in the process of building new industrial parks in Guanajuato to accommodate companies of all sizes. NAPS is working closely with many of these developers to ensure its clients have immediate access to desirable locations throughout the entire region.
The state and city governments throughout Guanajuato are responding to the anticipated growth by spending on infrastructure, such as new highways, bridges and schools. Cities such as Irapuato now have a beautiful golf course, country club and a growing variety of culinary cuisine, which continues to attract foreigners to live in the city. Other cities in Guanajuato, such as Celaya, Salamanca and Silao are following suit.
